Flowers: The Universal Symbol of Love

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. It is the day that men and some women give flowers to the love of their lives to express their true feelings and emotions. Valentine’s Day is a globally celebrated holiday which is marked by the sending of romantic cards, flowers and chocolate.

Roses especially long-stemmed red roses are the most associated flowers with this holiday. However, tulips, azaleas, and carnations are becoming increasingly popular where Valentine’s Day is concerned. Roses come in many different colors – the traditional red, pale pink, white, peach, lavender, cream, and yellow. The two colors that are the most associated with Valentine’s Day are red and yellow. Red is used as the symbol of love and yellow is used as the symbol of friendship.

Most people opt for a dozen red roses for their Valentine; however, choosing a mixed bouquet with red, pink and white roses or a combination of other flowers is also perfect for expressing your love to that special person in your life. There are so many different and exotic flower choices available and all can be used on Valentine’s Day. Your choices are endless. Valentine’s Day is no longer about roses.

Potted flowering plants are a great option for extending your Valentine’s Day greetings. If you would like to surprise someone with a potted flowering plant on Valentine’s Day, you should choose a plant with many buds that are about to open. Buds that are about to open lengthen and enhance the person’s experience. He or she will be able to enjoy seeing the buds move from being about to open to being in full bloom. You should always make sure that you check the buds, blossoms and leaves of potted plants for disease and insects. Tulips, cyclamens, azaleas and chrysanthemums are perfect examples of flowers that can be given as potted flowering plants on Valentine’s Day.

You should make sure that you ask the florist to include a note with maintenance instructions for the potted flowering plant. Some people may have never received a flowering plant and may not know how to take care of it.
